Day One of Racing- St. Barths Bucket 2012

What a day. The initial race of the St. Barths Bucket 2012 day was intensely exciting, made more so by the seemingly constant rain squalls. Due to the amount of wind, the day involved a huge amount of heel (at one point we had the yacht tilted on an angle of 30 degrees), fast boat speeds (we were over 15 knots for a while), and unfortunately a few ripped spinnakers (not a cheap item to replace on a superyacht). We had a great day in spite of the rain, but did not place very well in our class (partially due to some mechanical failures and tactical errors, but also mostly due to the incredibly late start time that we were appointed by the race committee). Hopefully tomorrow will bring better weather and results!
